Comcast Expands Its Service Territory to Include Rainier, Oregon

Comcast’s Oregon/SW Washington region has expanded, bringing the City of Rainier, Oregon into our footprint.  While we’ve certainly grown by adding new neighborhoods or acquiring other service providers, this is the first city-wide expansion in more than 30 years, and will enable the 1,500 homes and businesses in Rainier access to our full suite of world-class products and services.

“Our technology leadership and entertainment assets are a fantastic combination,” said Rodrigo Lopez, Senior Vice-President of Comcast Oregon/SW Washington.  “We’re again bringing customers closer to the moments that matter.”

Over the course of a number of years, construction teams worked together with tech ops, engineering and PMO to complete the project.  According to Paul Klein, VP of Engineering, getting the cable across the Longview Bridge was the primary sticking point, due to a migratory bird issue.  “The nesting birds slowed our progress, but we finally completed the project to the satisfaction of the Army Corps of Engineers in an environmentally sensitive manner.”  Total cost of the project was more than $2 million.

“We’re very excited to be included in the Comcast footprint,” said Rainier Mayor Jerry Cole.  “This will bring a lot of services to Rainier that haven’t been available to us before, like 1Gig internet.  And I’m personally excited about all the new TV choices we’ll have – especially the voice remote I’ve heard about.”

The news of Comcast service is also receiving a positive reception from local businesses. “There is a lot of excitement in the business community around Comcast in the City of Rainier,” said Brian Fawcett, president of the Rainier Chamber of Commerce. “With Comcast Business offering speeds starting at 25Mbps and going up to 10 Gigs, business owners can be connected in new ways. And businesses with locations in other cities can connect their Rainier locations to other locations, enhancing profitability.”

Local residents were offered “lunch and learns” and product demos at a local pizza restaurant – along with a free slice.  Rainier customers will be served by our Longview technicians and cable store employees.
