Comcast Volunteers Greet Students with Backpacks Stuffed with Supplies on the First Day of School

Grab a pencil case.  Fill it with 12 pencils, two erasers, a box of colored markers, a pair of scissors, two glue sticks, a box of crayons, a ruler, and an Internet Essentials brochure.  Then grab a backpack.  Stuff the pencil case in.  Add two notebooks and three folders, and then do the whole process again.  Six hundred times.

That’s what it takes to provide an entire elementary school population with all their needed school supplies through the Tools for Schools program, run by Schoolhouse Supplies.

Comcast Oregon/SW Washington has been participating in Tools for Schools for seventeen years at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in North Portland.  And this year for the first time, we also provided the students of Lincoln Street Elementary School in Hillsboro with supply-filled backpacks too.

“It felt great to work side by side with my fellow Comcasters—the energy of the new school year was so contagious,” said Shevonne Sayers from our construction engineering team.  “Getting to start those students off on the right foot with a new backpack full supplies to help them be successful this year was absolutely wonderful!”

School Principal Risa Munoz helped supervise the backpack distribution.  “It’s amazing that Comcast has been here for so many years, ensuring that our kids start the year with all the supplies they need.  We’re so grateful.”
