Latinx Culture is what makes me who I am.

My people’s achievements and history are all woven into the fabric of the United States. National Hispanic Heritage Month gives me, and everyone, the opportunity to celebrate it.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, I was elated every time I saw a Puerto Rican person make the news. It wasn’t just me, it was a huge celebration among everyone– we all felt we were part of it. We were all excited. I was so proud, so deep in my soul, I felt like I could wear my flag everywhere. This month reminds me of being home and celebrating those wins. It brings back so many memories.

One of the first things I noticed when I came to work at Comcast, after moving to Oregon, was the ERGs (Employee Resource Groups). To see my community recognized made me feel supported, and gave me an opportunity to support others and give them a voice within and outside of the company. Being a leader of the Unidos ERG has empowered what makes me unique —  for example, I know that I won’t be seen differently for having an accent. Cultural differences can quickly become obstacles for employees and work groups when they’re not addressed. Unidos ERG has given me, and so many others, the confidence needed to be a great team mate. Our differences are often our strengths, the very things that make us so proud we could wear a flag on our backs –Unidos has made sure I don’t forget that.

The Unidos ERG is just another example of Comcast living its values and dedicating resources to the communities we live, work and play in. It’s like a big familia, we are here for each other and “you can be you.”
