Comcast Launches Digital Security Service to Protect Wi-Fi Connected Devices in the Home

How many connected devices do you have in your house? Think carefully: its not just your computer anymore. From mobile phones to home security cameras and smart thermostats, all of these connected devices need to be protected from threats to your network security.

That’s why Comcast has launched Xfinity xFi Advanced Security, a new artificial-intelligence (AI) powered service that monitors, blocks and informs customers of online threats to connected devices, and provides seamless digital protection for those devices when connected to their home network.

“With the growing number of connected devices in the home, most consumers don’t have access to the expertise or tools to keep those devices secure,” says Mike Burnett, VP of Technical Operations for Comcast Oregon/SW Washington. “xFi Advanced Security was developed to protect devices in this new hyper-connected reality.”

xFi Advanced Security uses AI and machine-learning technology to monitor and analyze Wi-Fi traffic in the home, automatically blocking identified suspicious activity in real time. “When a threat is detected, it’s automatically blocked and you’re notified and given tips on how to resolve the issue,” says Burnett.

The xFi Advanced Security service protects all of the devices in a customer’s home that are connected to the Xfinity Advanced Gateway with no set-up required, other than turning the device on. There’s nothing for the customer to install or configure and, once the device is powered up, the xFi Advanced Security service starts working immediately. Xfinity xFi Advanced Security is available for $5.99 per month to Comcast customers who rent an xFi Gateway.
