Yuhan Kinder arrived on American soil 22 years ago as an international student from Taiwan. She remembers the culture shock of arriving in a place very far from home.
“Not only did I have to overcome a language barrier, but I also had to adopt a whole new culture,” said Kinder. “It was challenging.”
Today, Yuhan works at Comcast as a business account executive. She’s inspired to share her own history with co-workers, and continue to learn about theirs. The Asian Pacific American (APA) Employee Resource Group, which she helped to launch, is a resource for just this. It also helps Comcast employees to navigate new and foreign environments—something that would’ve eased her own transition had she had access to something similar two decades ago.
“I took the opportunity to help launch APA in our region because I believe in the importance of sharing stories,” said Yuhan. “Every member of the group can bring awareness to their own cultural background and, in turn, feel heard by their coworkers.”
Since the launch, Yuhan has been building leadership and membership to APA. She aims to deepen Comcast Oregon/SW Washington’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Yuhan’s contribution and the APA ERG is just one way we strive to make every employee feel valued and respected for who they are. At Comcast, we know that a diverse and inclusive company is a more innovative and successful company, which is why we aim to infuse diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our culture and our business.
