As Seen in The Register-Guard: Comcast Helps Eugene Kids Start the School Year Strong

Back-to-school season is a big deal for families—and this year, Comcast was proud to help make it a little easier for thousands of students in the Eugene area. As featured in The Register-Guard, Comcast partnered with One Hope for the annual Project Hope Back-to-School Giveaway, an event that provided essential resources to local kids and families.
More than 3,500 students from four school districts—Bethel, Eugene 4J, Junction City, and Springfield—received new athletic shoes, socks, and backpacks filled with school supplies. Many locations also offered free meals, haircuts, winter coats, and even mini medical clinics, ensuring kids were ready to start the school year with confidence.

Comcast’s Commitment to Digital Equity
As part of the event, Comcast gave away 10 laptops and shared information about its Internet Essentials program, which offers affordable home internet, and Lift Zones, which provide free WiFi in community spaces. These initiatives are designed to help close the digital divide and keep students connected for learning.
“It’s our responsibility to give back to the communities we serve,” said Emma Grayson, External Affairs Manager for Comcast Oregon/SW Washington. “Events like Project Hope are about more than school supplies—they’re about creating opportunities for every child to succeed, both in the classroom and at home.”

A Strong Partnership for Stronger Communities
One Hope, the nonprofit behind Project Hope, has been leading this effort for 15 years with the help of 58 community partners and 47 local churches.
“We want families to feel supported and cared for as they head into a new school year,” said Kaylee Luna, Project Hope Coordinator at One Hope. “This event is about meeting practical needs and building a sense of community.”
Comcast is honored to support this incredible initiative and looks forward to continuing to invest in programs that empower students and families across Oregon.
