As a child growing up in Oregon, February focused on valentines and the prospect of more dreary rainfall. It wasn’t until I became an adult, that I recognized the impact of African-Americans on society. Today, I see Black History Month as an important opportunity for education and reflection.
As a leader of the Black Employee Network (BEN) at Comcast, I feel empowered to bring more awareness to Black History Month. It allows me to connect with others in my community and encourage those around me to make a difference. I strive to share this attitude not only with my colleagues and friends, but also with my son, in hopes that it will impact future generations.
I’m proud that Comcast offers special programming around Black History Month, along with year-round content celebrating the African-American community: a collection of shows, movies, and music videos, featuring African American actors, musicians and sports figures.
My leadership role in Comcast’s Black Employee Network has given me the opportunity to celebrate black excellence while developing my career. I’m proud to know that Comcast, a Fortune 50 company, promotes diversity and inclusion in a way I’ve not seen anywhere else. I have the freedom to truly be myself and be proud of who I am. Using my platform as a leader within Comcast to practice what I believe, at a company that strives to serve all populations, enables me to create a legacy I can be proud of.
