Every time I hear the phrase “go green,” the first thing I think of is recycling. Recycling is great—the Green Team recently sorted and recycled nearly four TONS of textiles to prevent them from ending up in a landfill—but recycling is not the only option. In fact, the sustainability trail also includes reduce, reuse, repurpose, rethink, and prevent.
In my work as the Green Team lead for Comcast Oregon/SW Washington, I’m shifting my focus to prevention. Sustainability (or the lack thereof) is deeply engrained in our day-to-day life. Everything we do furthers – or lessens – our impact on the environment. From cleaning up spilled coffee with a rag instead of a paper towel, to buying a new car—every resource we use (or don’t use) matters. That’s why preventing waste altogether is the first step in creating a greener planet.
On Earth Day, Green Team is hosting a zoom series that will take the region’s employees beyond the bin and focus on other ways to “go green.” Each of our 1,200 employees live, work, and play in Oregon and Southwest Washington communities. We want to encourage every single one to help make sustainable choices at work and at home. We are committed to a greener Oregon/SW Washington and to reaching our zero waste, zero emissions, and 100% renewable energy goal.
