Students, Leaders and Achievers, Oh My!

What makes a leader? At Comcast, we believe it’s striving to achieve one’s full potential, being a catalyst for positive change and serving as a model for your community. Each year, we have the opportunity to celebrate high school students who exemplify these traits in Oregon and SW Washington through our Leaders and Achievers scholarship program.

We’re honored to give the best and brightest Oregon/SW Washington high school students the recognition they deserve for demonstrating outstanding leadership traits and excelling in school. 2018 is a year of leaders, with 60 nominated students who were each awarded $1,000.  Leader and Achievers, funded by the Comcast Foundation, awarded a total of $78,000 to Oregon and SW Washington students this year alone.

“Our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners are exceptional students who are committed to academic excellence and community service,” said Rodrigo Lopez, Regional Senior Vice-President of Comcast’s Oregon/SW Washington region.  “We are honored to recognize their achievements and excited to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”

Each one of these students has gone above and beyond within the realms of community service and academia. However, two students were chosen to receive an additional $9,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship, in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder of Comcast Corporation.

On Saturday, June 2nd, Oregon State Senator Mark Hass joined us to recognize the students at the Moda center. On top of the $1,000 Leaders and Achievers scholarships, ten students won brand-new laptops to bring to school with them this upcoming fall.
