Comcast Cares Day: Taking Pride in Helping the Community

By: Mabel
As soon as we arrived at Comcast Cares Day I realized how many dedicated volunteers Portland has. People were painting the cafeteria, and at first I was overwhelmed but everyone was super nice in getting us t-shirts and a job.
I was working on painting the blacktop. Halfway through I started thinking how privileged my school was and that not all schools have the same resources. Yet it gave me a new sense of pride knowing I had helped a community that day.
After the majority of the work was done, everybody cleaned up. It was everybody working and doing a part of something that made me feel in the mix. We came inside and it looked like a whole new school (though a little messy) and I thought about how this would make the students feel as they walked in Monday morning. Comcast provided pizza and a lively chatter soon overcame the foyer. Comcast Cares Day was a great opportunity to feel involved in my community.
