The Portland Film Festival returns beginning Tuesday, Oct. 11, to celebrate its 10th anniversary and to kick things off with an opening night reception, complete with black carpet, hors d’oeuvres, and a bit of bubbly.

The festival, presented by Comcast, celebrates independent films and filmmakers. The 2022 event features more than 400 films, as well as appearances by directors, producers and other guests. The program includes films that tell diverse stories about women, people with disabilities, veterans, and members of the Asian community, the Black community, the Indigenous community, the Latin community, the LGBQTIA+ community, the Muslim community, and more.

The 10th anniversary festival will be held at the Lloyd Center Mall, in the east wing. Use the Northeast entrance, near the retail space formerly occupied by Marshalls. The opening night reception happens from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, and is free.

Following the reception, the film, “The Latin From Manhattan” will screen, at 7 p.m. Actors Jesse Metcalfe (”Chesapeake Shores”) and Taryn Manning (”Orange Is the New Black”), who star in the film inspired by the career of adult performer Vanessa Del Rio, are also among guests scheduled to attend.

The festival’s founder and executive director is Josh Leake, and Joe Stevens is director of programming. In addition to film screenings, the event will also include panels featuring directors and experts on topics covered by some of the films.

The in-person festival happens from Oct. 11-23, and those who can’t attend can check out the virtual event, from Oct. 11 through Nov. 27. Comcast subscribers here and all over the country will receive free access to some of the films shown in the festival by saying “Portland Film Festival” into their X1 or Flex voice remote during the event.
