As Seen on KOIN: Comcast partners with Schoolhouse Supplies to give backpacks to Portland students

Back-to-school season is a little brighter for thousands of Portland-area students thanks to a partnership between Comcast and local nonprofit Schoolhouse Supplies.

As featured on KOIN 6 News, Comcast employees recently rolled up their sleeves to help assemble and distribute over 3,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. These backpacks are headed to Title One schools across six local school districts, ensuring students have the tools they need to start the school year strong.

“This opportunity where we are providing every student with a new backpack filled with the supplies they need ensures there is an equal playing field when they come back to school,” said Rebecca Brown, Director of External Affairs for Comcast Pacific Northwest.

The effort didn’t stop with students. Comcast also surprised Schoolhouse Supplies with a donation to support their “Free Teacher Shop,” which provides educators with classroom materials at no cost.

“Every teacher we know has dug into their own wallet to pay for supplies students can’t afford,” said Alice Forbes of Schoolhouse Supplies. “So it’s a great way to support students and teachers alike.”

This initiative is part of Comcast’s broader commitment to supporting education and digital equity in the communities we serve. We’re proud to stand alongside Schoolhouse Supplies in helping students and teachers thrive.
