Celebrating the Grand Opening of La Plaza Esperanza: Comcast’s Commitment to Empowering Our Local Communities

We are thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of La Plaza Esperanza, a transformative project that embodies our commitment to empowering the Rockwood community in the Portland Metro area. This 18,000 square-foot facility, located in the heart of the Rockwood, welcomes all community members and provides a culturally specific space for Latino children, youth, and families to dream, hope, learn, and grow for decades to come.

La Plaza Esperanza is the result of an extensive community-visioning process involving hundreds of community stakeholders. The innovative and multipurpose design responds to the needs expressed by all age groups for a community place where they feel like they belong, are welcomed and understood, and feel safe.

Comcast is proud to have played a pivotal role in making La Plaza Esperanza a reality. As part of our partnership with the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission (MHCRC), we are investing in these digital community learning spaces, backed by Comcast Lift Zones, and La Plaza Esperanza is the first to launch! The Comcast Lift Zones offer free high-speed WiFi and technology to help community members get online. This resource ensures that families and individuals have access to essential digital tools, Latino Network programming and resources, all to help bridge the digital divide and empower the local community to thrive in the 21^st Century economy.

La Plaza Esperanza now serves as a vibrant hub for services benefiting Latino children, youth, and families living in and around Gresham. The facility also offers pre-school and education geared toward families, job training, social connection, and civic engagement opportunities for youth in East Multnomah County. It also serves as a central hub for health resources and other critical needs, as well as a gathering place for the whole region to celebrate holidays and traditions, strengthening ties between the Latino community and the broader population.
